Fluoropolymers Market Size in Africa

The African fluoropolymers market expanded rapidly to $X in 2021, increasing by 7.1% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -5.5% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fluoropolymers production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -6.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 36%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, fluoropolymers exports in Africa plummeted to X tons, dropping by -29.1% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 303% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluoropolymers exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 196%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Swaziland was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 47% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 28% share, followed by Egypt (10%) and Malawi (6.7%). Niger (X tons) and Botswana (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Swaziland (with a CAGR of +30.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Swaziland ($X) remains the largest fluoropolymers supplier in Africa, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Niger ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Swaziland amounted to +31.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Niger (+17.2% per year) and South Africa (-7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 200%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

For the tenth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in supplies from abroad of fluoropolymers, which increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, fluoropolymers imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +76.2% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kenya dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 76% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together mixing up a 13% share of total imports. Tunisia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Kenya was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluoropolymers imports, with a CAGR of +84.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Togo (+37.3%), Tunisia (+32.7%) and South Africa (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kenya (+74 p.p.) and Togo (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -27.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Kenya ($X) and Tunisia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 68% of total imports.

Kenya, with a CAGR of +39.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
