From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of carcases, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +6.9%), while carcases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases decreased by -24.9% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

At the same time, Congo (+26.6%), Namibia (+26.3%), Kenya (+14.0%) and Tanzania (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Congo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +26.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Namibia (+9.6 p.p.) and Kenya (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-14.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest fresh pork other than cuts or carcases supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8.5% share.
In South Africa, exports of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases declined by an average annual rate of -3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Namibia (+17.1% per year) and Kenya (+12.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases, when their volume decreased by -39.8% to X tons. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, imports of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Angola (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Equatorial Guinea (X tons), Congo (X tons) and Gabon (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Botswana (X tons), Togo (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases in Africa, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Lesotho, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at +2.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Namibia (-12.5% per year) and Lesotho (+0.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
