The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen potato exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Frozen potato imports surged to X tons in 2021, jumping by 34% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, frozen potato imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) represented the key importers of frozen potatoes in Africa, together finishing at near 39% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6% share, followed by Libya (5.4%), Nigeria (5%) and Botswana (4.7%). Zambia (X tons), Mauritius (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Angola (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Mauritius, Nigeria, Libya, Zambia, Senegal, Namibia, Angola, Cabo Verde, Egypt and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
