The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen poultry liver exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 34%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 63% of total exports. Zambia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Namibia (8%) and Rwanda (5.7%). Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen poultry liver exports from South Africa stood at -5.5%. At the same time, Rwanda (+390.0%), Zambia (+68.0%), Morocco (+7.7%) and Namibia (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +390.0% from 2012-2022. Zambia (+15 p.p.), Rwanda (+5.7 p.p.) and Namibia (+4.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -14.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest frozen poultry liver supplier in Africa, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zambia (+59.5% per year) and Namibia (+6.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in South Africa ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) and Rwanda ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Rwanda (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, supplies from abroad of frozen poultry livers and offal decreased by -4.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.6% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, frozen poultry liver imports stood at $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +99.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Ghana (X tons) and Angola (X tons) were the major importers of frozen poultry livers and offal in 2022, accounting for near 18% and 18% of total imports, respectively. South Africa (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.7% share, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (8.6%), Congo (6.7%), Benin (5.7%) and Gabon (5.7%). Liberia (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Libya (X tons), Equatorial Guinea (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +27.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Angola ($X), Ghana ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 46% of total imports. Congo, South Africa, Gabon, Libya, Benin, Liberia, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +24.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Liberia (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
