After two years of growth, the African fruit flour market decreased by -61.1% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption enjoyed tangible growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, fruit flour production shrank rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production posted a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Exports in Africa
In 2022, exports of fruit flour in Africa soared to X tons, rising by 120% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fruit flour exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Rwanda represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 52% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), together achieving a 36% share of total exports. South Africa (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Rwanda was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fruit flour exports, with a CAGR of +114.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tunisia (+49.2%), Ghana (+25.0%), South Africa (+18.3%) and Nigeria (+14.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Rwanda (+52 p.p.) and Tunisia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -4.1% and -18.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest fruit flour supplier in Africa, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Tunisia amounted to +42.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+33.5% per year) and South Africa (+11.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -61.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Fruit Flour Imports
Imports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of fruit flour imported in Africa reduced to X tons, waning by -8.3% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 149%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fruit flour imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 91%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
Morocco was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 31% of total imports. Tunisia (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Algeria (13%) and South Africa (9.2%). Ghana (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Angola (X tons), Libya (X tons), Seychelles (X tons), Botswana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fruit flour imports into Morocco stood at +31.1%. At the same time, Botswana (+134.3%), Tunisia (+67.8%), Ghana (+40.7%), Angola (+24.2%), Libya (+24.0%), Seychelles (+15.8%), Kenya (+9.5%), Algeria (+9.3%) and South Africa (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +134.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Nigeria (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Morocco (+28 p.p.), Tunisia (+15 p.p.), Algeria (+5.5 p.p.), Ghana (+3.7 p.p.), Angola (+2.4 p.p.), Libya (+2 p.p.), South Africa (+1.8 p.p.) and Botswana (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -1.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Morocco ($X), Algeria ($X) and Tunisia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 66% of total imports. South Africa, Libya, Kenya, Seychelles, Ghana, Angola, Nigeria and Botswana lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Botswana, with a CAGR of +125.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
