Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporter of furnace burners for solid fuel or gas, making up 53% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Kenya (6.9%) and Cote d'Ivoire (6.3%). The following exporters - Mauritius (X tons), Congo (X tons) and Uganda (X tons) - together made up 8.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to solid fuel furnace burner exports from South Africa stood at -9.4%. At the same time, Egypt (+73.8%), Mauritius (+73.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+49.6%) and Uganda (+32.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +73.8% from 2012-2021. Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kenya (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Egypt (+18 p.p.), Kenya (+6.9 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+6.1 p.p.), Mauritius (+3.5 p.p.) and Uganda (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -38.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest solid fuel furnace burner supplier in Africa, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 10% share.

In South Africa, solid fuel furnace burner exports contracted by an average annual rate of -15.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+79.4% per year) and Kenya (+1.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 21%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while Mauritius ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+17.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, purchases abroad of furnace burners for solid fuel or gas decreased by -73.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Overall, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 418%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, solid fuel furnace burner imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) was the largest importer of furnace burners for solid fuel or gas, constituting 37% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Angola (6.6%), Algeria (6.4%), Egypt (6.1%), Zimbabwe (6.1%) and South Africa (5.7%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to solid fuel furnace burner imports into Nigeria stood at +36.4%. At the same time, Zimbabwe (+56.4%), Senegal (+39.9%), Angola (+21.4%) and Egypt (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +56.4% from 2012-2021. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nigeria (+33 p.p.), Senegal (+15 p.p.), Zimbabwe (+5.9 p.p.) and Angola (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-1.7 p.p.), South Africa (-3.8 p.p.) and Algeria (-33.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 50% of total imports. These countries were followed by Nigeria, Angola, Senegal and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +35.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 208% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep slump. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
