The African refrigerator or freezer market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a deep reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of furniture designed to receive refrigerating or freezing equipment increased by 5.2% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, refrigerator or freezer exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 89%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refrigerator or freezer imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 13%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Algeria (X units) and Tunisia (X units) represented the main importers of furniture designed to receive refrigerating or freezing equipment in Africa, together reaching approx. 40% of total imports. South Africa (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.9% share, followed by Botswana (6.1%) and Sudan (5.4%). In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -9.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refrigerator or freezer import price decreased by -16.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 36%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
