Gin and geneva imports fell to X litres in 2022, waning by -1.9% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -15.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, gin and geneva imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 65%. The purchases of the six major importers of gin and geneva, namely Togo, South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea, represented more than half of total import. In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gin and geneva in Africa, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 9.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 7.8% share.
