In value terms, goat hides and skins exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons), distantly followed by Somalia (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Rwanda (X tons), Malawi (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) represented the key exporters of goat or kid hides and skins, together making up 70% of total exports. The following exporters - Swaziland (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Madagascar (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Mauritania (X tons) - together made up 17% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) remains the largest goat hides and skins supplier in Africa, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 5.6% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Zimbabwe stood at +13.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zambia (+4.6% per year) and South Africa (-9.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 78% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a strong increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while Swaziland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+40.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, goat hides and skins imports in Africa declined notably to X tons, falling by -41.5% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 69%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, goat hides and skins imports declined dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) represented the largest importer of goat or kid hides and skins, making up 82% of total imports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), making up a 10% share of total imports. Kenya (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the goat or kid hides and skins imports, with a CAGR of +63.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+23.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In Nigeria, goat hides and skins imports increased at an average annual rate of +72.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-20.7% per year) and Kenya (+19.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn.
