Exports by Country
Angola was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 62% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), mixing up a 25% share of total exports. The following exporters - Namibia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.8% share of total exports.
Angola was also the fastest-growing in terms of the granite blocks and slabs exports, with a CAGR of +46.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zimbabwe (+3.9%) and Namibia (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Angola (+57 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe saw its share reduced by -9.7%, -12.1% and -36.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Angola stood at +35.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zimbabwe (+2.3% per year) and South Africa (-2.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 7.6%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in South Africa ($X per ton) and Namibia ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) and Zimbabwe ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (-1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of granite blocks and slabs decreased by -4.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after seven years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 42%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, granite block imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Algeria was the major importer of granite blocks and slabs in Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 67% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together creating a 22% share of total imports. The following importers - Libya (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.1% share of total imports.
Imports into Algeria increased at an average annual rate of +25.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+53.6%), Egypt (+36.3%), Libya (+10.9%) and South Africa (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2022. Algeria (+53 p.p.), Egypt (+9.9 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -5.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Algeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granite blocks and slabs in Africa, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 6.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.7% share.
In Algeria, granite block imports increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-2.3% per year) and Egypt (+25.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
