In value terms, monumental stone granules and powder exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 492%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Ghana prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 80% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons), together creating a 10% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the granules, chippings and powder of monumental stone exports, with a CAGR of +82.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+73.6%) and Egypt (+40.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kenya (-5.8%) and Morocco (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest monumental stone granules and powder supplier in Africa, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 9.6% share.
In Ghana, monumental stone granules and powder exports increased at an average annual rate of +73.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+40.7% per year) and Egypt (+30.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 120% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+43.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, imports of granules, chippings and powder of monumental stone in Africa surged to X tons, picking up by 31% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, monumental stone granules and powder imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mauritius (with a CAGR of +96.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mauritius ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granules, chippings and powder of monumental stone in Africa, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mauritius totaled +81.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (+20.1% per year) and Egypt (+1.3% per year).
