By contrast, Nigeria (-2.1%) and Congo (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Botswana (+9.4 p.p.), Mali (+4.4 p.p.), Burkina Faso (+4.3 p.p.), Mozambique (+3.3 p.p.), Mauritius (+2.9 p.p.), Central African Republic (+2 p.p.), Ghana (+1.9 p.p.) and Kenya (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Libya (-4.7 p.p.), Nigeria (-11.8 p.p.) and Congo (-12.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Libya ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Botswana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 52% of total imports.

Botswana, with a CAGR of +629.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
