Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, gym and fitness equipment exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a modest increase. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +79.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest gym and fitness equipment supplying countries in Africa were Mauritius ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tunisia ($X), together comprising 91% of total exports. These countries were followed by Tanzania, which accounted for a further 1.1%.
Among the main exporting countries, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +68.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -20.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of gym and fitness equipment, when their volume decreased by -31.8% to X tons. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, gym and fitness equipment imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Mauritius (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the key importers of gym and fitness equipment, together creating 63% of total imports. Egypt (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Libya (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Mauritius (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 48% of total imports. Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, Tunisia, Libya, Nigeria, Ghana, Angola and Senegal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
Mauritius, with a CAGR of +22.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
