The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest plaster supplier in Africa, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 7.1% share.
In Tunisia, plaster exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+12.7% per year) and South Africa (-0.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plaster imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Nigeria (X tons), distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) represented the largest importers of plaster, together constituting 70% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Benin (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Togo (X tons), Gambia (X tons) and Libya (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +27.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plaster in Africa, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 7.3% share.
In Nigeria, plaster imports increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+21.1% per year) and Ghana (+12.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
