Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, hand-made lace exports declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 150%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, Ghana (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) represented the main exporter of hand-made lace in the piece, in strips or in motifs in Africa, creating 87% of total export. Rwanda (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Ethiopia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +90.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest hand-made lace supplying countries in Africa were Ghana ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -30.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (-2.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Hand-made lace imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 57% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 89%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hand-made lace imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a temperate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 306% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, Tanzania (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Rwanda (X tons), Burundi (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) was the main importer of hand-made lace in the piece, in strips or in motifs in Africa, committing 88% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burundi (with a CAGR of +21.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Egypt ($X) and South Africa ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 83% share of total imports.
