Hand Saw Market Size in Africa

The total consumption indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Rwanda (X tons), comprising a 6% share of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand saw exports from South Africa stood at -5.1%. At the same time, Rwanda (+111.0%) and Tunisia (+21.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +111.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Rwanda and Tunisia increased by +6 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest hand saw supplier in Africa, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of hand saws decreased by -2.1% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hand saw imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

The countries with the highest levels of hand saw imports in 2022 were South Africa (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Togo (X tons), Djibouti (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together amounting to 70% of total import. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X), Algeria ($X) and South Africa ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 31% of total imports. Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Djibouti, Tanzania, Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Togo and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Among the main importing countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +42.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Djibouti (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
