In 2022, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Togo (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Rwanda (X tons) represented the major exporters of household articles and toilet articles of plastics, together constituting 89% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Rwanda (with a CAGR of +140.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic household articles supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Senegal ($X), with a combined 52% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Tanzania, Togo and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) represented roughly 32% of total imports in 2022. South Africa (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 9.5% share of total imports. Gambia (X tons), Mali (X tons), Liberia (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
