In value terms, household sewing machine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa was the main exporter of household sewing machines in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 72% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Rwanda (X units), creating a 14% share of total exports. Morocco (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to household sewing machine exports from South Africa stood at -2.2%. At the same time, Rwanda (+84.6%) and Morocco (+35.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 19% against the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, supplies from abroad of household sewing machines increased by 7.5% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +125.9% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 41%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, household sewing machine imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. The following importers - Uganda (X units), Guinea (X units), Togo (X units), Egypt (X units), Benin (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Cameroon (X units) - together made up 22% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported household sewing machines in Africa, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with an 11% share.

In Nigeria, household sewing machine imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (+0.7% per year) and Ghana (+14.9% per year).
