In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the key exporter of HVAC equipment, constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units) and Egypt (X units), together creating a X% share of total exports. Morocco (X units) and Algeria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Algeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (X%) and Tunisia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports. Egypt, Morocco, Libya, Angola, Ghana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tunisia, Senegal and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
