Moreover, Ethiopia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +34.5% from 2012-2021. Nigeria and Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Democratic Republic of the Congo (-4.3%), South Africa (-4.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (-5.6%) and Tunisia (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Gabon, Ethiopia, Angola, Egypt and Cabo Verde increased by +34, +8, +7.9, +3.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest hydraulic automatic regulators supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Gabon ($X), with an 8.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Ethiopia, with a 3.1% share.

In South Africa, hydraulic automatic regulators exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Gabon (+2.3% per year) and Ethiopia (+24.6% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Algeria amounted to +21.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nigeria (+16.6% per year) and Morocco (+40.1% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
