Egypt was the main exporter of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), comprising a 22% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydrogen chloride exports from Egypt stood at +6.5%. At the same time, Kenya (+27.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 52% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, hydrogen chloride export price increased by +83.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, hydrogen chloride imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +96.0% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented the main importers of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid), together creating 60% of total imports. Tanzania (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 12%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
