Morocco (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +36.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Kenya ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 89% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Morocco and Senegal, which together accounted for a further 6.7%.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +38.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates were imported in Africa; surging by 11% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, illuminated sign imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Namibia (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Angola (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Among the main importing countries, Malawi, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
