The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imitation jewellery production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 310,737%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of imitation jewelry, when their volume increased by 32% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 60%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imitation jewellery exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 70% of total exports in 2021. Egypt (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Uganda (X tons). All these countries together held near 13% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons), Madagascar (X tons), Mauritius (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -6.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uganda (+20.1%) and Madagascar (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uganda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +20.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-1.9%), Kenya (-3.9%), Mauritius (-14.3%) and Egypt (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+6.6 p.p.), Uganda (+4.5 p.p.) and Madagascar (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mauritius and Egypt saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -12.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mauritius ($X) remains the largest imitation jewellery supplier in Africa, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 13% share.
In Mauritius, imitation jewellery exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (-11.1% per year) and Tunisia (+0.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 9.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+21.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
Imitation jewellery imports surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 22% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imitation jewellery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of imitation jewellery imports in 2021 were Egypt (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together finishing at 69% of total import. The following importers - Kenya (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Cameroon (with a CAGR of +39.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Sudan ($X), South Africa ($X) and Ghana ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 49% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Sudan, with a CAGR of +50.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 78% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sudan ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
