Exports from Tunisia increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Senegal (+71.0%), Togo (+47.5%), Egypt (+44.0%), Nigeria (+34.0%) and Kenya (+29.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +71.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt, Nigeria, Togo, Kenya and Senegal increased by +22, +7.6, +5.1, +3.3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest confectionery-making industrial machinery supplying countries in Africa were Tunisia ($X), Egypt ($X) and Nigeria ($X), with a combined 88% share of total exports. South Africa, Kenya, Senegal and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.7%.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +80.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, confectionery-making industrial machinery export price decreased by -8.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports posted a perceptible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, confectionery-making industrial machinery imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 110%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
