Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. At the same time, Burundi (+35.5%), Ghana (+27.4%), Botswana (+23.1%), Nigeria (+19.2%), Angola (+9.3%), Morocco (+7.9%), Kenya (+7.2%), Namibia (+3.2%) and Egypt (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burundi emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +35.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Algeria (-6.2%) and Mozambique (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Botswana (+7.1 p.p.), Ghana (+2.6 p.p.), Nigeria (+2.3 p.p.), Kenya (+2.3 p.p.), Angola (+2.1 p.p.), Burundi (+2 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Mozambique (-2.9 p.p.), Algeria (-5.1 p.p.) and South Africa (-17.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Nigeria ($X), with a combined 51% share of total imports. Egypt, Morocco, Angola, Namibia, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Mozambique and Burundi lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

From 2021 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Burundi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
