In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the African inflatable vessel market, when its value decreased by -7.7% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 321% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, inflatable vessel exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 147%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporter of inflatable vessels for pleasure or sports in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 55% of total exports in 2021. Egypt (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tunisia (X units) and Mauritius (X units). All these countries together took near 41% share of total exports.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the inflatable vessels for pleasure or sports exports, with a CAGR of +18.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritius (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Tunisia (-4.8%) and Egypt (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+48 p.p.), Mauritius (+4.8 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-2.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest inflatable vessel supplying countries in Africa were Tunisia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X), together comprising 98% of total exports.

South Africa, with a CAGR of +11.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -24.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 130%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Mauritius ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+11.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of inflatable vessels for pleasure or sports, when their volume increased by 93% to X units. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 244%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, inflatable vessel imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 140%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Somalia (X units) and Morocco (X units) represented the major importers of inflatable vessels for pleasure or sports in Africa, together achieving 52% of total imports. Sudan (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Mauritius (8.3%) and Zimbabwe (8.1%). Egypt (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Namibia (X units) and Algeria (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Somalia (with a CAGR of +46.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Somalia ($X), Morocco ($X) and Mauritius ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by Algeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Sudan, Namibia and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +65.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
