From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -3.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+14.0% per year) and Cameroon (+12.4% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Africa

Keyboards imports contracted to X units in 2022, shrinking by -6.7% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 33%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, keyboards imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented the major importers of keyboards in 2022, resulting at near 24% and 22% of total imports, respectively. Nigeria (X units) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (9.5%), Algeria (8.6%) and Tunisia (5%). Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +11.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 57% of total imports.

Algeria, with a CAGR of +3.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 42%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
