At the same time, Niger (+80.9%), Rwanda (+38.4%), Angola (+36.8%), Kenya (+28.8%), Mauritania (+26.3%), Mauritius (+25.6%), Mali (+17.4%), Nigeria (+14.4%), Senegal (+9.5%) and Tanzania (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +80.9% from 2012-2021. Tanzania (+6.1 p.p.), Kenya (+5 p.p.), Mauritius (+4.9 p.p.), Rwanda (+3.6 p.p.), Mauritania (+3.2 p.p.), Nigeria (+3 p.p.), Mali (+2.1 p.p.), Senegal (+1.9 p.p.), Niger (+1.8 p.p.) and Angola (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -35.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest internal combustion engine (excl. diesel, moto vehicle and aircraft) supplier in Africa, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritania ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 5.3% share.
In South Africa, exports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) shrank by an average annual rate of -4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mauritania (+44.1% per year) and Kenya (+25.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -24.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritania (+14.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) decreased by -2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cameroon (with a CAGR of +49.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) in Africa, comprising 18% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Algeria ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7.5% share.
