In value terms, motorised invalid carriage exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

South Africa dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 90% of total exports in 2021. Tanzania (X units) and Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled exports, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tanzania (+16.9%) and Kenya (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa increased by +28 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest motorised invalid carriage supplier in Africa, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports.
In South Africa, motorised invalid carriage exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (+4.0% per year) and Tanzania (+22.5% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. In 2021, the amount of invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled imported in Africa expanded sharply to X units, picking up by 13% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 444% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, motorised invalid carriage imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 40%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Mozambique (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Algeria (X units), Mali (X units), Botswana (X units), Egypt (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Mauritius (X units) and South Sudan (X units) - together made up 22% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Sudan (with a CAGR of +60.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 48% of total imports. These countries were followed by Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Mauritius and Mali, which together accounted for a further 13%.
In terms of the main importing countries, South Sudan, with a CAGR of +30.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 178% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Mali ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
