In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest iodine, fluorine and bromine supplier in Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Angola, with a CAGR of +24.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -20.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 60% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
