The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 64%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to jacks and hoists imports into South Africa stood at +6.4%. At the same time, Tanzania (+19.7%), Zimbabwe (+15.5%), Egypt (+12.0%), Botswana (+5.2%), Libya (+4.0%) and Kenya (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Algeria (-1.6%), Morocco (-2.4%), Angola (-4.9%), Sudan (-5.3%), Mozambique (-9.2%) and Tunisia (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+12 p.p.), Egypt (+4.8 p.p.), Tanzania (+4.3 p.p.), Botswana (+1.6 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Algeria (-2.3 p.p.), Sudan (-2.6 p.p.), Morocco (-2.7 p.p.), Mozambique (-9.8 p.p.) and Tunisia (-10 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest jacks and hoists importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 40% share of total imports. Egypt, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tunisia, Botswana, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Libya and Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +9.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while Sudan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+14.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
