Mozambique (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mauritius (with a CAGR of +49.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Swaziland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Zambia, Ethiopia, Mauritius and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.7%.

Among the main exporting countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +42.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 369%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Swaziland (+25.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, after six years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of lathes for removing metal, when their volume increased by 2.4% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 2,952% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lathe for removing metal imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Tanzania (X units), distantly followed by South Africa (X units), Ghana (X units), Mozambique (X units), Egypt (X units) and Zambia (X units) were the largest importers of lathes for removing metal, together constituting 68% of total imports. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest lathe for removing metal importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Egypt ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ghana, Tunisia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Libya, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Madagascar and Botswana, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Ghana, with a CAGR of +31.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 368% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+30.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
