The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 17%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

South Africa (X units), Ghana (X units), Algeria (X units), Libya (X units), Kenya (X units), Sudan (X units), Morocco (X units), Egypt (X units), Guinea (X units), Cameroon (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Uganda (X units) represented roughly 72% of total imports in 2022. Mali (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +33.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 30% of total imports. Ghana, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, Cameroon, Mali, Kenya, Guinea, Tunisia and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +32.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
