From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lemon and lime yield declined to X tons per ha in 2022, which is down by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by 3.2% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2021, and then declined in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In value terms, the largest lemon and lime importing markets in Africa were Mauritius ($X), Cabo Verde ($X) and Mauritania ($X), together comprising 35% of total imports. Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia, Rwanda, Cote d'Ivoire, Angola, Somalia, Botswana, Djibouti and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Somalia, with a CAGR of +65.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 17%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
