In 2021, approx. X tons of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water were exported in Africa; with a decrease of -27.5% against the previous year. Overall, exports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 335%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, liquid air and distilled water exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 69%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Rwanda (X tons), generating a 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) - each finished at a 4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to liquid air and distilled water exports from South Africa stood at -8.8%. At the same time, Rwanda (+1,080.0%), Tunisia (+76.2%) and Kenya (+19.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +1,080.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Rwanda, Tunisia and Kenya increased by +10, +2.3 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest liquid air and distilled water supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Kenya ($X), together accounting for 82% of total exports. Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 0.4%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Rwanda, with a CAGR of +215.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 151%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Liquid Or Compressed Air And Distilled Or Conductivity Water
Imports in Africa
Liquid air and distilled water imports declined dramatically to X tons in 2021, waning by -25.1% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, liquid air and distilled water imports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest levels of liquid air and distilled water imports in 2021 were South Africa (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons), together resulting at 72% of total import. Libya (X tons), Somalia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of +122.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water in Africa, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +11.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kenya (-10.3% per year) and Ghana (+2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, liquid air and distilled water import price increased by +27.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
