In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 300% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a strong increase. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+23.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, machine tool for metal imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Ethiopia (X units), South Africa (X units) and Morocco (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to machine tool for metal imports into Nigeria stood at +24.9%. At the same time, Senegal (+43.7%), Tanzania (+37.4%), Mali (+35.9%) and Ethiopia (+13.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +43.7% from 2012-2021. In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Morocco ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 44% share of total imports.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +61.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
