The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 811% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, paper machinery imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 39% of total imports. Angola (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Egypt (X units) and Tanzania (X units). All these countries together held approx. 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Zambia (X units), Tunisia (X units), Benin (X units), Kenya (X units), Mauritius (X units) and Algeria (X units) - together made up 18% of total imports.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Angola ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 66% of total imports. Kenya, Algeria, Zambia, Tunisia, Tanzania, Mauritius and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Among the main importing countries, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +98.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 89%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Benin ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
