The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, feedstuff preparing machinery exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
South Africa (X units) and Tunisia (X units) prevails in exports structure, together mixing up 88% of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) - each recorded a 9.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tunisia (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest feedstuff preparing machinery supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Egypt ($X), together accounting for 94% of total exports.
Tunisia, with a CAGR of +44.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, falling by -4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, overseas purchases of machinery for preparing animal feedstuffs decreased by -10.2% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -41.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, feedstuff preparing machinery imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria (X units) and Algeria (X units) represented roughly 36% of total imports in 2021. South Africa (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X units), Libya (X units) and Kenya (X units). All these countries together took approx. 35% share of total imports. Ghana (X units), Botswana (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Angola (X units), Morocco (X units), Ethiopia (X units) and Zambia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Angola (with a CAGR of +33.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest feedstuff preparing machinery importing markets in Africa were Algeria ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Egypt ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. South Africa, Kenya, Libya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Angola, Ethiopia, Botswana and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Angola, with a CAGR of +31.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Libya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
