In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per thousand units, surging by 21% against the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 57%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per thousand units), while Congo ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of machinery for solid-liquid separation decreased by -4% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 88%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, solid-liquid separator imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -20.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Nigeria was the main importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 35% of total imports. South Africa (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Morocco (X units). All these countries together took near 31% share of total imports. Libya (X units), Egypt (X units), Angola (X units), Tunisia (X units), Ghana (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+15.1%), Libya (+15.0%), Egypt (+10.7%), South Africa (+8.3%), Algeria (+7.7%), Cote d'Ivoire (+7.7%), Ghana (+4.3%) and Morocco (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-6.7%) and Angola (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nigeria (+9 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.2 p.p.), South Africa (+2.8 p.p.), Libya (+2.6 p.p.), Egypt (+1.6 p.p.) and Algeria (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Morocco (-2.6 p.p.), Tunisia (-5.6 p.p.) and Angola (-10 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Libya ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 41% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Libya, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per thousand units, with an increase of 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per thousand units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per thousand units), while Nigeria ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
