In value terms, textile weaving and knitting machinery exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, textile weaving and knitting machinery export price increased by +91.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 107%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per unit), while Madagascar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+26.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, imports of machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles in Africa surged to X units, rising by 29% against the year before. Overall, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 137%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, textile weaving and knitting machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

It was distantly followed by Ethiopia (X units), Morocco (X units), Egypt (X units) and Algeria (X units), together generating a 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Tunisia (X units) and South Africa (X units) - each resulted at a 4.6% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles imports, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ethiopia (+18.6%), Morocco (+7.5%), Algeria (+5.4%) and Egypt (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Africa (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nigeria (+33 p.p.) and Ethiopia (+4.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Algeria (-2.4 p.p.), Tunisia (-3.1 p.p.), Egypt (-7.1 p.p.) and South Africa (-17 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles in Africa, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Ethiopia, with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Egypt amounted to +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+4.8% per year) and Ethiopia (+9.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 43%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
