In value terms, grinding machine exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 91%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 87% of total exports in 2021. Zambia (X units) and Morocco (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +5.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Morocco (-14.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+25 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Morocco saw its share reduced by -5.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest grinding machine supplier in Africa, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 3.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -5.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (-3.8% per year) and Zambia (-4.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -41.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 131%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, grinding machine imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Egypt represented the key importer of machines having individual functions, for mixing, kneading, crushing or grinding in Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 36% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X units), Algeria (X units), Morocco (X units) and South Africa (X units), together mixing up a 34% share of total imports. The following importers - Angola (X units), Nigeria (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Zambia (X units) - together made up 14% of total imports.
Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of machines having individual functions, for mixing, kneading, crushing or grinding. At the same time, Zimbabwe (+16.6%), Algeria (+15.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+3.2%), Angola (+2.8%), Zambia (+2.1%) and Morocco (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2021. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Africa (-8.4%) and Ethiopia (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Zimbabwe (+7.7 p.p.) and Algeria (+6.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ethiopia and South Africa saw its share reduced by -4.7% and -8.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 41% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Nigeria, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Angola, Ethiopia, Cote d'Ivoire and Zambia, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +17.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 40%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
