Exports from Swaziland increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+39.2%) and Egypt (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +39.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Africa (-9.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Swaziland (+32 p.p.) and Tunisia (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -30.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Swaziland ($X) remains the largest maltodextrine supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Swaziland amounted to +4.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (+2.4% per year) and Tunisia (+44.2% per year).

Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 39%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
