In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) was the largest exporter of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates, making up 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), creating a 15% share of total exports. Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -7.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+13.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates supplier in Africa, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.
In South Africa, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports declined by an average annual rate of -1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+0.0% per year) and Kenya (+15.1% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, the amount of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates imported in Africa expanded remarkably to X tons, growing by 11% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 46% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Niger (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Niger (+111.1%), Ghana (+17.2%), Algeria (+12.2%), Egypt (+10.1%), Zimbabwe (+9.3%), Tunisia (+6.2%) and Kenya (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +111.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Morocco (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+11 p.p.), Egypt (+4.3 p.p.) and Niger (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco saw its share reduced by -18.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates in Africa, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 5.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 5.3% share.
In South Africa, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports plunged by an average annual rate of -3.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+11.3% per year) and Ghana (+14.5% per year).
