In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen yield in Africa contracted modestly to X tons per ha, waning by -4.2% on 2021. Overall, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 9.3% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the mango and mangosteen harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Africa
Mango and mangosteen exports fell slightly to X tons in 2022, waning by -2.6% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Egypt (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total exports in 2022. Senegal (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Kenya (11%), Mali (10%), South Africa (5.3%) and Burkina Faso (4.5%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +15.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) emerged as the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in Africa, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Burkina Faso, with an 11% share.
In Egypt, mango and mangosteen exports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cote d'Ivoire (+15.9% per year) and Burkina Faso (+17.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +30.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Morocco (X tons), distantly followed by Rwanda (X tons), Ghana (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Sudan (X tons) were the largest importers of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, together constituting 85% of total imports. Botswana (X tons), Uganda (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X), Ghana ($X) and Rwanda ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 57% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +29.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -11.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
