After four years of growth, overseas shipments of manure spreaders and fertilizer distributors decreased by -5.4% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, manure spreader exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Tanzania represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 52% of total exports. Zambia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 32% share, followed by Egypt (6.9%) and Kenya (5.7%).

In value terms, Zambia ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 98% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Zambia, with a CAGR of +26.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of manure spreaders and fertilizer distributors decreased by -6.7% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, manure spreader imports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Burundi represented the key importer of manure spreaders and fertilizer distributors in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 40% of total imports in 2022. Sudan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Morocco (5.8%) and Botswana (4.8%). The following importers - Zambia (X units), Ghana (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Angola (X units), Algeria (X units), Kenya (X units), Tanzania (X units), Uganda (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) - together made up 29% of total imports.

Burundi was also the fastest-growing in terms of the manure spreaders and fertilizer distributors imports, with a CAGR of +34.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Sudan (+20.8%), Botswana (+14.9%), Ghana (+10.8%), Zimbabwe (+10.5%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+6.4%), Tanzania (+4.1%), Angola (+3.5%) and Zambia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Algeria (-1.6%), Morocco (-1.6%), Uganda (-2.1%) and Kenya (-26.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Burundi (+39 p.p.), Sudan (+9.7 p.p.), Botswana (+4.2 p.p.), Ghana (+3.2 p.p.), Zimbabwe (+3.1 p.p.), Angola (+2.3 p.p.), Zambia (+2.3 p.p.), Morocco (+2 p.p.) and Tanzania (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kenya (-27.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Botswana ($X), Algeria ($X) and Zambia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 43% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Angola, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, Uganda, Kenya and Ghana, which together accounted for a further 47%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Burundi, with a CAGR of +24.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
