Egypt prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 94% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - each reached a 3.7% share of total exports.

Exports from Egypt decreased at an average annual rate of -1.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+14.1%) and Tunisia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +14.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of Egypt (-2.7 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest marble building stone supplier in Africa, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 1.2% share of total exports.

In Egypt, marble building stone exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+13.5% per year) and Tunisia (-3.4% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Algeria ($X per ton) and Tunisia ($X per ton), while Libya ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
