In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the major exporter of metal office furniture, creating 52% of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (13%) and Morocco (7.8%). Kenya (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+26.8%), Kenya (+16.1%) and Tunisia (+12.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest metal office furniture supplier in Africa, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -5.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-6.9% per year) and Tunisia (+8.3% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal office furniture imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Morocco ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 22% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +19.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 6.1% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
