Milking Machine Market Size in Africa

The African milking machine market declined to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. The total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +5.9% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Milking machine exports reduced dramatically to X units in 2022, dropping by -34.4% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 142%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, milking machine exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 405%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units) and Uganda (X units), together constituting a 24% share of total exports. Morocco (X units) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (+38.0%) and Uganda (+19.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +38.0% from 2012-2022. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Egypt (+19 p.p.), South Africa (+18 p.p.) and Uganda (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest milking machine supplier in Africa, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uganda ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at +19.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uganda (+21.6% per year) and Egypt (+10.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 1,131% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Africa

For the third year in a row, Africa recorded growth in supplies from abroad of milking machines, which increased by 10% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, milking machine imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of around X units, which accounted for 43% of total imports. Algeria (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Tunisia (12%) and Morocco (8.7%). South Africa (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+48.1%) and Kenya (+22.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +48.1% from 2012-2022. Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Morocco (-3.5%), Tunisia (-4.1%) and South Africa (-22.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+37 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.3 p.p.) and Kenya (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -4.7% and -29.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported milking machines in Africa, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria amounted to +17.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-8.9% per year) and Tunisia (-3.2% per year).

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
