South Africa represented the key exporter of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2021. Senegal (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Nigeria (10%), Tunisia (7.3%) and Kenya (6.2%). The following exporters - Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Togo (X tons) - together made up 4.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exports from South Africa stood at +5.7%. At the same time, Senegal (+57.2%), Nigeria (+48.2%), Togo (+30.9%), Cote d'Ivoire (+18.6%), Tunisia (+15.3%) and Kenya (+10.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +57.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Senegal (+15 p.p.), Nigeria (+9.4 p.p.) and Tunisia (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-20.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest mixed condiment, sause and seasoning supplier in Africa, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 6.3% share.

In South Africa, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (+8.3% per year) and Tunisia (+11.0% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -19.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced contraction. In 2021, overseas purchases of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings decreased by -15.2% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning imports declined to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Guinea (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Liberia (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons) represented the main importer of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings in Africa, making up 60% of total import. Uganda (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Morocco (with a CAGR of +28.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 28% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +24.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
