Mixed Juices Market Size in Africa

For the third year in a row, the African mixed juices market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -4.1% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 7.2%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mixed juices production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 7.1% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mixed juices exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporter of mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices, generating 55% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by Zambia (8.2%). Kenya (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mixed juices exports from South Africa stood at -7.4%. At the same time, Zambia (+38.4%), Ghana (+6.8%) and Kenya (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +38.4% from 2012-2022. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Zambia (+8 p.p.), Egypt (+7.9 p.p.), Kenya (+1.8 p.p.) and Ghana (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -20.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Zambia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 91% of total exports.

Zambia, with a CAGR of +33.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -5.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X tons of mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices were imported in Africa; which is down by -5.2% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mixed juices imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of mixed juices imports in 2022 were Ghana (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Libya (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Somalia (X tons), Lesotho (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Zambia (X tons), together resulting at 66% of total import. Tanzania (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +18.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Libya ($X) and Mozambique ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 29% of total imports. Botswana, Namibia, Somalia, Senegal, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Among the main importing countries, Somalia, with a CAGR of +21.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
